Defenseman Owen Down Gains Valuable Experience Throughout 2025-26 Slate

DENVER – Since being selected No. 15 overall by the Colorado Mammoth during the first round of the 2022 NLL Entry Draft, the man they call “OD” has soaked up experience on turfs sprinkled throughout the the National Lacrosse League (NLL) circuit.

Having concluded his third professional season when the league’s 2025-26 campaign concluded, defenseman Owen Down has seen his fair share of battles and dramatic scenarios play out.

However, with just 32 regular season games played throughout his first three seasons, he’s only been active for two-thirds of the games he’s been eligible for dating back to the 2022-23 slate.

Sure, a few scratches from his rookie campaign make sense.

But outside those sitting sessions, Down has been on the outside looking in primarily due to various injuries and health concerns racked up over the years.

Box lacrosse can be a brutal, physical sport.

At the same time, measuring in at 6-5, 195 lbs., Down can be – and has been – quite the brutal, physical player, when available.

Having appeared in a majority of the team’s early-season matchups last year, he played alongside the likes of captain Robert Hope, Warren Jeffrey, Jordan Gilles and company, serving as a big-bodied threat, while remaining recognized as an agile, athletic figure.

But when the tall talent ran into another mid-season injury, he played in just one of the team’s final nine matchups, eventually forced to watch Colorado’s run from either the sidelines or back home.

Still able to make a sincere impact when he’s on the turf, Down recorded two points (0g, 2a), 42 loose balls, 11 caused turnovers, seven blocked shots and four penalty minutes across his nine regular season games played.

Logging 11 CTOs in nine appearances suggests he’s quite disruptive when he’s on the floor.

Knowing there were only four other members of the Mammoth who produced more than 11 CTOs confirms OD’s feisty, aggressive style of play, which should very much be welcomed back to the club when the team resumes activities this fall at the 2026 Colorado Mammoth Training Camp.

Any games, practices, scrimmages and beyond that Down can be present for are a positive at this point, as the soon-to-be fourth-year pro offers significant upside when healthy and active.
