Mammoth Sign Free Agents Kaleb Martin, Kris Veltman

DENVER – The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced the organization has signed goaltender Kaleb Martin and defenseman Kris Veltman to respective two-year contract agreements, set to begin during the 2023-24 NLL campaign.

Originally selected by Panther City Lacrosse Club during the 2022 NLL Entry Draft (fifth round, 79th overall), Martin has yet to make his NLL debut. Spending last season’s training camp with the second-year squad down in Fort Worth, Texas, he was eventually released from the team’s active roster Nov. 22.

Turning his attention to his Jr. A Whitby Warriors squad, whom he helped capture a 2022 Minto Cup one season ago, Martin most recently posted a .791 save percentage, 8.98 goals-against average and 707 saves in 17 games played during the 2022-23 OJLL (Ontario Junior Lacrosse League) campaign.

The Owen Sound, Ontario native recorded a career-high 63 saves July 4 during a 14-5 victory over the Six Nations Arrows, exiting the contest with a stellar .921 save percentage and 5.00 goals-against average. Three days later, on July 7, he followed the effort up with season-best figures (.930 save percentage, 4.00 goals-against average) during an 8-4 win against the Peterborough Lakers.

Veltman, 24, was initially selected by the New York Riptide during the 2020 NLL Entry Draft (fourth round, 53rd overall), but has yet to make his NLL debut after being released from the organization on Nov. 28 following the conclusion of last season’s training camp.

Spending his last two summer sessions with the Nanaimo Timbermen of the WLA (Western Lacrosse Association), he most recently recorded one point (0g, 1a) and 33 penalty minutes in 14 regular season appearances, bringing his totals with the club to three points (1g, 2a) and 47 penalty minutes in 31 contests.

Veltman is currently representing his club in the playoffs while competing against Mammoth teammates Connor Robinson and Dylan Kinnear, with the Langley Thunder currently leading the series 1-0.
