Mammoth Forward Ryan Lee Expected to Miss 2023-24 Season Following Successful Knee Surgery

DENVER – The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced the organization plans to place forward Ryan Lee on the Long Term Injured Reserve List ahead of the 2023-24 campaign after the RIT talent completed a successful knee surgery during the offseason.

“Unfortunately, Ryan has had complications with his recovery following his initial knee surgery in 2022,” Mammoth General Manager Brad Self shared. “He had to have another knee surgery this offseason that will keep him out of our lineup for the 2023-24 season. There’s no way to replace Ryan. He’s a true warrior and competitor and one of the best players in our sport. Collectively we’re going to ask everyone to step up in Ryan’s absence.”

With Lee’s original injury occurring toward the end of the team’s 2021-22 NLL Championship-capturing season in which he set the franchise’s single-season scoring record of 119 points (34g, 85a), the Newmarket, Ontario native missed two thirds of last year’s campaign, but eventually rejoined the lineup, recording 39 points (6g, 33a), 26 loose balls, three caused turnovers and two penalty minutes in six regular season appearances.

Leading the squad with 35 points (11g, 24a), 20 loose balls, one caused turnover and four penalty minutes in seven postseason games played, Lee reminded Mammoth fans not only how talented of a scorer he can be, but how important the forward is to Colorado’s offense as a distributor and primary ball-handler.

The organization will now turn to producers in Zed Williams, Tyson Gibson and recent trade acquisition Connor Kelly to get the job for the righties across the set from Eli McLaughlin, Connor Robinson and company as the forward group prepares to begin a second-straight season without Lee’s services.

Colorado has also signed a few free agent forwards ahead of this year’s training camp, set to begin Nov. 3-5 in Lakewood, Colorado, who will have a chance to compete for a roster spot next month.
