Colorado Signs Forward George Downey to One-Year Deal

DENVER – The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced the organization has signed forward George Downey to a one-year contract agreement, set to begin during the 2023-24 NLL campaign.

Most recently playing with the Wings last year during the 2022-23 season, the right-handed forward suited up in one game for Philadelphia, logging one shot in limited time on the floor.

The Palmyra, Pennsylvania native spent four collegiate seasons at Marywood University as a midfielder.

Downey is also the older brother to Mammoth defenseman Evan Downey, who logged a welcomed 14 points (5g, 9a), 63 loose balls, 10 caused turnovers and 11 penalty minutes last season in 15 regular season rookie year appearances. Later adding four points (1g, 3a), 19 loose balls, one caused turnover and two penalty minutes in six postseason games played with the Mammoth, Evan Downey has shown the organization that his namesake can produce when given the opportunity.

George will look to do just that, beginning next month when the team kickstarts its 2023-24 Colorado Mammoth Training Camp in Lakewood, Colorado, where the 34-year-old will look to make an NLL roster for the second-consecutive season.
