Colorado Inks Defenseman Jalen Chaster to New Deal

DENVER – The Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced the organization has signed defenseman Jalen Chaster to a two-year contract agreement, set to begin during the 2023-24 NLL campaign.

“Jalen has been a regular in our lineup since day one as a rookie,” Mammoth General Manager Brad Self said. “He’s got a great lacrosse IQ, which helps him contribute all over the floor and we’re looking forward to Jalen taking the next step in his career.”

Preparing for his third NLL campaign, the Coquitlam, BC native most recently recorded eight points (2g, 6a), 79 loose balls, five caused turnovers, seven blocked shots and 20 penalty minutes in 18 regular season appearances. Playing in each of the team’s 25 games this past season, Chaster added one point (0g, 1a), 24 loose balls, five caused turnovers, four blocked shots and four penalty minutes in seven postseason games played.

Originally selected by Colorado during the 2022 NLL Entry Draft (second round, 31st overall), the 23-year-old has racked up 13 points (4g, 9a), 140 loose balls, 16 caused turnovers, 14 blocked shots and 28 penalty minutes in 34 regular season appearances. Unafraid to push the pace with his wheels in the transition game, he’s chipped in five points (1g, 4a), 37 loose balls, seven caused turnovers, seven blocked shots and four penalty minutes in 14 career playoff games played.

Logging five points (2g, 3a), 61 loose balls, 11 caused turnovers, nine blocked shots and eight penalty minutes during his rookie season while helping the organization capture its 2022 NLL Championship, Chaster has been one of the many productive members selected from the 2020 NLL Entry Draft, the first class with Self and company calling the shots for Colorado.
