Colorado Mammoth Sign Coyle, Williams, McBride to Two-Year Deals

The Colorado Mammoth signed Head Coach Pat Coyle, Offensive Coordinator Shawn Williams and Defensive Coordinator Andrew McBride to two-year contracts Tuesday, solidifying the organization’s coaching staff through the 2021-22 National Lacrosse League season. Coyle, former Mammoth general manager, will continue to support player personnel and development decisions for the club as an assistant general manager in addition to his continued role as the team’s head coach. The trio of former NLL standouts bring a combined 42 seasons of professional box lacrosse experience and nearly a decade of coaching wisdom to the Mammoth organization.

“We’re very excited to bring this coaching staff back for two more years and praise Pat for his continued leadership as a coach and mind for the game,” Colorado Mammoth General Manager Brad Self shared. “These three individuals have competed and succeeded at the highest levels in our sport and the chemistry this group possesses is next-level. We’re looking forward to observing their continued development as a staff and performance with the team over the next two seasons.”

Coyle, 50, brings 12 years of experience as a professional lacrosse player to the Mammoth front office and has been involved in the organization’s coaching staff since 2014. Coaching alongside Chris Gill and Dan Stroup, the trio spent three seasons together at the helm of the organization before Coyle was named as the head coach of the Mammoth prior to the 2017 season. As an athlete, Coyle spent a majority of his career with the Toronto Rock, where he earned 2002 NLL Defenseman of the Year Honors and secured four championships. The defenseman joined the Mammoth in 2005, where he spent the final four seasons of his playing career and helped the team secure its first NLL championship during the 2006 season. The Orangeville, Ontario native accumulated 133 points (28g, 105a) in 156 games as a defenseman en route to being inducted to the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2017.

“I’m very honored to continue to lead this team alongside Shawn and Andrew and look forward to getting back on the floor with our guys,” Colorado Mammoth Head Coach Pat Coyle shared. “I’m extremely thankful for everyone at Kroenke Sports & Entertainment for this opportunity, to Brad Self and the front office and most importantly our fans – We recognize your support and passion for our team and want nothing more than to bring a championship back to the Loud House.”

Williams, 46, logged 17 seasons in the NLL as a forward before retiring in 2016 and brings a player-centric approach to the organization and his offensive sets alike. The Scarborough, Ontario native originally joined the Mammoth as an offensive coordinator prior to the 2018-19 season and will continue to develop and oversee Mammoth offensive sets and personnel in his third season with the organization. Williams spent 10 of his 17 NLL Seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks and secured two championships during his league tenor; the first with the Toronto Rock in 1999 and his second with the Rochester Knighthawks in 2007. The forward recorded 1,152 career points (444g, 708a) in 257 career games and added 78 points (25g, 53a) in 24 postseason appearances.

McBride, 37, brings 13 years of experience as an NLL athlete to the front office and the defensive-minded Mammoth organization. At the helm of one of the league’s regularly elite back-end units, the defensive coordinator has proven his ability to oversee and develop talent throughout North America. The Ladner, British Columbia native spent his entire career with the Calgary Roughnecks and secured two championships (2004, 2009) before retiring in 2015. McBride logged 87 points (19g, 68a), 387 penalty minutes, 711 loose balls and 69 caused turnovers in 198 games with the Roughnecks. The defenseman added 16 points (3g, 13a), 40 penalty minutes, 96 loose balls and 11 caused turnovers in 29 postseason games.

“I’m thrilled to have both of these gentlemen back on the bench with me and believe their relationships with our players, staff and fans will guide us to successful production on the field and in the community,” Coyle shared. “I’ve had the opportunity to play with and against Shawn and Andrew; they’re both hard-working competitors that love the game, and their passion will surely bring dividends to our players’ and organizational development.”
