2019-20 John Grant Jr. Winner

With the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, the Colorado Mammoth is pleased to present the recipients of this year’s team awards. An annual occurrence, Mammoth players and staff vote for individual players who best exemplified the leadership and production qualities associated with each award and former Colorado Mammoth player in which the awards were named after. Mammoth players and staff have taken place in the tradition since the 2015 season.

The awards, named after former Mammoth greats, represent various aspects of the game, both on and off the floor. Team MVP, Best Offenseman, Best Defenseman, Teammate of the Year and Most Inspirational round out the traditional five awards. The annual regular season celebration concludes with the Fan Choice Award, a unique opportunity which encourages the Mammoth faithful to vote for their favorite player of the season.

John Grant Jr. Award (Top Offenseman) – Ryan Lee

“Leezer was a man on a mission from day one — Full of confidence and ready for a larger role in the offense, Ryan was someone our team was able to lean on to get the job done,” Mammoth Offensive Coordinator Shawn Williams shared. “He consistently recorded impressive performances and seemed to add to his highlight reel every game.”

During the forward’s third season with the Colorado Mammoth, Ryan Lee expanded his role as an offensive leader and sustained consistent production for a defensive-based Mammoth squad which welcomed the scoring. Leading the team in points, goals and power-play goals in 13 contests, Lee offered a glimpse into the future and provided fans with a handful of highlight reel material in the process. Perhaps you’ve heard of Flyin Ryan or his Leezer Lazers.

Representing the Mammoth with one of the best offensive plays of the season during Colorado’s final regular season game, Lee finished an alley-oop style pass from Tyler Digby which helped spark an eventual comeback against the Rochester Knighthawks March 8. The spectacular diving effort sent some waves (and perhaps a message) around the lacrosse world that Ryan Lee is here to score goals.

The third-year forward logged career-best totals in several offensive categories, including: points (60), assists (35), power-play goals (6) and power-play assists (11) in five less games than his sophomore season. Lee’s 60 points ranked him tied for seventh-most in the NLL, as the forward averaged 4.62 points per game and recorded four hat tricks during the campaign, including a five-goal performance Jan. 25 against Buffalo. The forward recorded his season-high eight-point (2g, 6a) outing Dec. 28 against the Georgia Swarm and added a pair of seven-point performances Jan. 18 against Saskatchewan and Feb. 29 vs. Philadelphia.
